Type III collagen is a major fibrous collagen that makes up 5–20% of human tissues.
It combines with procollagen and pre-collagen to form the extracellular matrix (ECM), a structural component essential for reinforcing and supporting tissues such as the skin, vascular walls, and various organs.
The ECM (Extracellular Matrix) is a non-cellular network composed primarily of collagen and elastin within the skin tissue.
It plays a crucial role in maintaining skin elasticity and facilitating cell–cell interactions.
When applied to cosmetic or skincare formulations, COL3A1 can promote collagen production in the skin, providing anti-aging benefits such as wrinkle improvement and enhanced firmness.
